Assessing South Africa’s Food Security Strategy through a good governance lens

Abstract The pursuit of socio economic development lies in a governments' ability to not only formulate appropriate policy, but in its ability to efficiently and effectively engage in the management of the implementation of such policy. Good governance is a term associated with those governments who succeed in this regard. This article assesses South Africa's food security strategy and makes use of good governance as an assessment tool. The article conceptualizes good governance and uses the World Bank's Framework for good governance as a lens in assessing the successes and failures of food security strategy on poverty alleviation. The article supports food security as a good governance practice that contributes to socio-economic development and thus to improved Public Administration.
