External researchers, pharmaceutical conglomerates, and commercial enterprises have routinely extracted community knowledge and innovation systems, codified it within Western scientific paradigms, and monetized the derived assets through individualistic patents. The originating communities were left without legal attribution, epistemic authority, or economic dividends.
