paper examines the relatIonshIp between tradltlonal and modem medlcme wtth reference to an expenmental research study conducted m South Africa, which focused on mtervlews by tradItIona Zulu healers and modern chmcal psychologists with the same group of psychlatnc patients Results mdlcated that while tradItIona and modern practltloners worked from different theoretlcal onentatlons, they were m slgmticant agreement as to both dlagnosts and treatment of patients when faced Nlth the same hmlted choice of options. Furthermore. patients perceived both traditlonal and modern practiuoners as bemg more or less equally helpful. Results are compared with those of other studies Local and mternattonal lmphcations for the relatIonshIp between tradItIonal and modem medlcme are dIscussed.
